Fast Forward Nation

Monday, October 30th, 2006

I recently saw and really enjoyed Thank you for Smoking, I definately recommend it. The genre of socio-comedy attract me so when Fast Food Nation was released I of course went.. and should’ve kept walking. The movie is worse than the fast food crap they try to bash, the fast food company actually end up being the good guys..

Dont spend your money.. take a walk instead.

Some excerpts from President Bushs’ resume..

  • I appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any President in US history.
  • I am the first President in US history to enter office with a criminal record.
  • I set the record for least number of press conferences of any President since the advent of television.

..god bless the yuw ess aigh of imperialism..

Board but not Bored

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

I headed down to Torquay today to pick up my new surfboard at Ashley Surfboards.. and they’d down a bloody good job on it! The design on the bottom was done by me from a photo of my car and Stephen Ashley made an awesome job at putting it on the board. He did such a good job that a visitor to his shop ended up ordering a board with my design on =).. the kingswood is taking over.

Check out the board in the gallery.

Theres some cool shots of Melbourne from the other day over here too..

Overachievers..

The christmastree was installed on the corner of Swanston and Collins street today.. on the 19th of october. But whats traditions compared to a few more sales? Why not put the easterbunny next to it?

Little Miss Sunshine

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

I just came back from watching Little Miss Sunshine at the movies. The movie is about a pretty dysfunctional family and their struggles to fulfill the dream of their daughter, and end up having to deal with their own dreams. If you havent seen it you should.

Now.. or at least at the first good opportunity.

As usual the pictures are in the gallery.

Bodily Reboot in Progress

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

I handed in my last assignment for the semester this morning.. an assignment I’ve been working on the last couple of days.. and in the process spent 6 out of the last 50 hours sleeping. Time for bed.

Citizenship

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

As you know I’m trying to get permanent residency here in Australia.. a process comparable to the complexity of knitting a pair of boxers out of leatherstrings using safetypins.. so I’ve heard. Check for yourselves, how well do you do in the test?

DROP DATABASE ORACLE;

Sunday, October 8th, 2006

I’m spending my weekend in the computerlabs trying to not go postal while doing my assignment in Advanced Databases. A short summary..

  • The necessary TKPROF application hasn’t been installed.
  • When using XQuery I get erroneous results that my professor can’t explain since the query is correct.
  • When inserting the data I get an errormessage stating that 16 bytes couldn’t be allocated.
  • The database server just crashed..

Did I say that I sincerely hate the piece of overpriced toy that Oracle on Windows is?

A large cup of poo please

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

The other week I was at my local (and highly excentric) coffee supplier at Preston Market, Big Al’s Coffee and Nuts. Additional to buying the usual espresso beans I decided to try something new and asked for something special.. I ended up with Vietnamese beans that has been eaten by bats, slightly digested and.. deposited in the guanodelivery process.. from where they get picked (dont shake hands with vietnamese farmers!) and roasted..

A cup of bat-poo perhaps?

Next time I’ll settle for my normal fix..

Worst Bang for the Buck

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Oracle SQL*Plus must be the worst piece of crap software ever written.. how can an industry-leading database made by a company making billions of dollars every year be shipped with a console that has been utter horsepoo for more than 10 years? Please Larry (and the rest of the Oracle crew), descend from the tower and download PostgreSQL now.

Yes.. I have to use it daily now.

Dont mind me, I’ll selfcombust over there in the corner now..

Good Deal

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

I went on a materialistic spree and bought two pairs of sneakers today at a special 2 pairs for $120 deal on FootLocker even though I really only wanted the one pair.. wasnt too much of a choice though since the sneakers I was buying were priced at $129. Capitalism works in strange ways.

Eternity in 27 years

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

The swedish popgroup Roxette was recently awarded a BMI prize for having their song ‘Listen to your heart’ played 3 million times on the radio in the USA.. makes you wonder why they aren’t bombing themselves in the War on Terror (or it may explain why that would be redundant). But. Even more interesting: In an interview Per Gessle shows off his mad math skills (translated into english by me below):

-That equals the song being played for 27 years back to back, or that 1.5 radiostations play it nonstop for all eternity.

.. is eternity really only 27 years? ..or is that 1.5 eternities so that 1 eternity is 27/1.5=18 years? Wow. Sick. The authors of my math textbooks was so of track here.. like totally.

Being condemned to an eternity of [insert random evil thing like burning in hell or watching primetime-TV here] doesnt sound too bad anymore.

Spring or Summer?

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

According to the forecasts the temperature is going to hit 30 tomorrow here in Melbourne.. a perfect day to spend all day in the computerlabs with a huge assignment on XML databases.

Or not..

..but it’s precisely what I have to do, I should probably avoid raffles at the moment.
